ProteomTech, Inc. business is divided into four separate areas;

 



In recent years, ProteomTech has made major strides in refining our technology and defining our businesses. The four business segments have evolved out of our core technology, Pt-Fold TM, patent number US/PCT 6,583,268 and led to our unique position of being able to manage proteins which other companies often cannot.

 

 

 

Therapeutics Research and Development:

ProteomTech, Inc. is rapidly emerging as a product-driven pharmaceutical research and development company.  Our focus and core technology is built around developing therapeutic proteins optimally refolded from E. coli inclusion bodies that are difficult to recover via competing technologies. Using our robust, patented protein refolding technology, Pt-Fold TM, ProteomTech has developed a pipeline of three protein drug candidates. In addition, we are using our access to facilities in China to accelerate our drug approval and marketing processes within China.  Additionally, we plan to reduce the time requirements for validation as well as reduce the clinical development costs in the US, European Community and Japan by moving rapidly with Chinese approval processes.

 

Pharmaceutical Candidates:

 

1.       Vascular endothelial cell growth inhibitor (rVEGI)

·          Medical: angiogenesis inhibitor, potential use for various cancers in late or early stage, and other angiogenesis caused indications such as macular degeneration.

·          Significance: Genentech’s Avastin, approved for colon cancer recently, is an antibody protein inhibiting angiogenesis and already a new blockbuster drug. VEGI is a natural human antiangiogenesis cytokine, and works through in a completely different mechanism than Avastin. Therefore VEGI may provide an alternative or an add-on therapeutics to Avastin or similar drugs

·          ProteomTech Advantages: Exclusive license of VEGI patent. ProteomTech is the only company known to be able to refold VEGI from E. coli. Partially funded by NIH SBIR Phase I & Phase II grants.

 

2.       Recombinant prourokinase (rProUK)

·          Medical: for treating serious cardiovascular diseases, heart attack, stroke, DVT, PAO.

·          Market: expected $700M in 2007 for thrombolytic drugs (DataMonitor)

·          ProteomTech advantages:  most stable and lowest cost rProUK from E. coli; expected to have a better safety profile. The goal is to replace existing urokinase and streptokinase drugs. Partially funded by SBIR grant.

 

3.       Recombinant human thrombin (rhThrombin)

·          Medical: for controlling bleeding in various surgeries and injuries.

·          ProteomTech Advantages: Very stable rhThrombin and low cost of production, since protein is derived from E. coli.  Goal, to replace bovine plasma thrombin with human form.

Since 2001, ProteomTech has worked with a majority of the top 10 Big Pharma companies and more than 30 biotech companies, universities and research institutions of excellence around the world.  Collaborating with these clients has enabled our company to enhance our proprietary Pt-FoldTM technology.  It is our intention to utilize these learned skills to delight our clients especially through better optimization of client protein, protein production, refolding and purification.  To best respond to specific needs of individual clients, we take time to study the protein of interest and assess the opportunity for success.  For this reason, certain proteins may be modified or enhanced based upon our experience and with the client’s permission and involvement. 

Throughout the process, clients receive proteins they can assess for their own needs and to provide feedback with respect to utility.  Consequently, careful early evaluation of expectations and “deliverables” is important early in the process.  Proteins provided for evaluation often have full activity for screening and animal studies.  Proteins lacking activity or utility are assessed for the best refolding prospects and studies updated and repeated to improve results or to overcome specific issues such as for storage conditions.  Many proteins produced through Pt-Fold methodology have been crystallized and their structure determined for subsequent lead identification and lead optimization activities.

We are continuously expanding the range of proteins correctly refolded utilizing Pt-Fold technology.  Although the success rate of very difficult proteins is hard to predict, there are many proteins which lend well to the Pt-Fold Methodology.

Contract Options: Outsource your HT refolding screening to ProteomTech

·         Quick Screen: A rapid PTR-IS turnaround of protein growth and a preset number of refolding conditions to speed turnaround and minimize costs.  The more work you perform, the better the rate.  Optimal for screening several different constructs or several different proteins at one time.

·         Broad Screening: An approach with significant efforts (12-18 weeks) service but limited quantities of protein produced.

·         Refolding optimization for difficult proteins of high interest.  An approximate six months of concentrated development efforts dedicated to refolding the protein, refining the conditions of refolding, purification and work directed at Scaling-up protein.

·         Optional Scale-up Development: Add 10 mg to X-gram quantities following a successful protein refolding and purification to any of the above selections.

·         Shared IP: An option to reduce costs for Start-ups lacking resources.
